The Security Directorate, also known as the Greyhats, are an elite faction, part of the Global Authority. Unlike the RedHats, they operate beyond the borders of any Colony.
Other than Homeland Security which is a local policing force, the Transitional Authority also operates a different force called Greyhats. These seem to far more professional, military class force. Greyhats are more of an attacking force by nature, while Redhats take the defense role. Greyhats also perform VIP protection missions, as well as securing the Hosts when they visit earth. As well as protecting and keeping outlier assets.
Despite being IGA's elite force, they are no match against Project Phoenix (Seattle's Outlier Resistance Movement) members, who are mostly ex-Special Forces. When massive Grayhat battalion had massive casualties against Seattle's ex-Special Forces Rebellion Movement, a high-ranking Grayhats officer Scott Garland told to new Governor General of Seattle, Alan Snyder, that if he had soldiers like that under his command, his results would be very different. This imply that IGA's elite soldiers faction Grayhats don't have ex-Special Forces among them and that all ex-Special Forces are automatically classified as Outliers to be captured alive and put to stasis chambers (pods) and they all are instead reserved by The Hosts to be used in their war against The Demis and not given to IGA.
